About Tokyo Mate
About Tokyo Mate
Hi, I'm Tokyomate — the writer behind this blog. I've been living in Tokyo since 2023, walking every corner of the city from popular landmarks to quiet backstreet restaurants most guidebooks miss.
I originally write about Tokyo in Korean on my Naver blog: blog.naver.com/tokyomate. Tokyo Mate is where I rewrite those same articles in English, Japanese, and Chinese — so I can share what I find here with travelers around the world, not just Korean readers.
Every article is based on firsthand visits and personal experiences. When I review a restaurant, I've eaten there. When I recommend a walking route, I've walked it. When I cover an event, I've been there with a camera in hand.
What You’ll Find Here
- 🍽️ Restaurant & cafe guides — honest reviews from actual visits, with menu details, prices, and tips
- 🗺️ Neighborhood guides — deep dives into Tokyo's districts with walking routes and local picks
- 🌸 Seasonal events — cherry blossom spots, illuminations, festivals, and limited-time experiences
- 🎫 Practical travel info — transit passes, tickets, luggage storage, and money-saving strategies
How I Create Content
Each article starts as a Korean post on my Naver blog, drawn from my own visits and notes. I then rewrite the same article in English, Japanese, and Chinese here on Tokyo Mate so non-Korean readers can use it too.
I don't accept paid reviews or sponsored placements. Every recommendation comes from genuine personal experience.
Why Tokyo Mate?
There's no shortage of Tokyo travel content online, but much of it is recycled from the same sources. Tokyo Mate is different because every piece of information comes from someone who actually lives in Tokyo and visits these places regularly — not from a desk halfway around the world.
Whether you're planning your first trip to Tokyo or your tenth, I hope these guides help you find something new.
