🏮 2. Things to Do & See in Asakusa — BEST 5
① The Heart of Asakusa: Sensoji Temple (浅草寺)
The starting point and the endpoint of any Asakusa trip. Here are the key spots you shouldn’t miss from the entrance at Kaminarimon to the main hall.
📌 Kaminarimon (雷門) Tips
- A gift from Panasonic: The current gate was rebuilt in 1960 with a donation from Panasonic's founder.
- Dragon carving under the 700kg lantern: Look underneath the massive lantern — there's a detailed dragon carving hidden there!
- Wind and Thunder Gods: Meet the Wind God on the right and the Thunder God on the left guarding the gate.
- At night: Once the crowds are gone, Kaminarimon lit up at night has a completely different beauty from the daytime.

Nakamise Shopping Street (仲見世通り) runs about 250 meters from Kaminarimon to the main hall. It’s a lively shopping street where you can enjoy tasty street food and browse cute souvenirs.

You’ve arrived at the Sensoji main hall! Light some incense, make a wish, and try your luck with “omikuji” fortune-telling papers!

② Asakusa Culture & Tourism Center (Free Observation Deck)
This is a free observation deck on the 8th floor of the building directly across from Kaminarimon. You can see Sensoji and Skytree in one view — definitely stop by.

③ Asakusa Water Bus
A good option when traveling between Asakusa and Odaiba, or the other way around. You can enjoy Skytree and the Tokyo scenery from the river — a different perspective.
④ Demon Slayer Pilgrimage
In the anime Demon Slayer, Tanjiro was overwhelmed by the city when he first arrived — and that was Asakusa in the 1910s Taisho era. The Asakusa Roku District (浅草六区), the heart of the area back then, still has that atmosphere. Walking these streets and comparing the anime scenes with the real thing is a really special experience!
