Here's the latest 2026 info on Sushi Azabu, an omakase restaurant at Azabudai Hills.
With weekday lunch omakase at ¥4,800 and dinner at ¥9,800, it's a value-driven omakase from the Tokyo flagship of AZABU, the Michelin 1-star sushi brand from New York and Miami. The restaurant opened in November 2023 alongside the launch of Azabudai Hills. The biggest draw is being able to experience authentic Edomae sushi at reasonable prices.
🍣 Sushi Azabu: Affordable Omakase at Azabudai Hills
Sushi Azabu (鮨麻布) originated from AZABU, a sushi restaurant that started in the United States.
The Manhattan and Miami Beach locations each earned Michelin 1 star, drawing attention from food lovers around the world. This brand's flagship then opened in Tokyo's Azabudai Hills — a reverse landing from overseas back to Japan — and that's the Sushi Azabu we have today.
The modern interior features calligraphy by Rintaro Hashiguchi, with a compact setup of just 12 counter seats. An omakase course that upholds Edomae sushi tradition while adding a contemporary touch — that's what makes this restaurant special.
The biggest talking point is the price. Weekday lunch omakase at ¥4,800, right in the middle of Azabudai Hills — one of Tokyo's most upscale neighborhoods. Once word got out, it quickly became a popular spot with reservations filling up fast. Ratings are steady too: Tabelog 3.50, Google 4.3.

Value point
Considering that the average omakase sushi dinner in Tokyo runs above ¥30,000, weekday lunch at ¥4,800 and dinner at ¥9,800 are very good value. When you factor in the Azabudai Hills location, the prices are even more surprising.

🍣 Weekday Lunch Omakase Course Review
I visited and tried the weekday lunch ¥4,800 course myself.
The course consisted of 12 items, served in the following order.

1. Yellowtail Sashimi (Buri / ぶり刺身)
In season with just the right amount of fat, you could taste the rich savory flavor right from the first course.

2. Sea Bream Nigiri (Tai / 鯛)
The chewy texture and mild sweetness of the sea bream balanced well with the shari.

3. Spanish Mackerel Nigiri (Sawara / 鰆)
Lightly straw-smoked with the skin left on, the subtle smokiness bringing out the umami.

4. Shiitake Mushroom Nigiri (Shiitake / 椎茸)
An unusual piece where the distinctive mushroom aroma and soy-based glaze blended well together.

5. Soy-Marinated Tuna Nigiri (Zuke Maguro / 漬けマグロ)
A classic Edomae style piece, with the soy marinade drawing out the umami of the tuna.

6. Grilled Sesame Tofu (Goma Dofu Yaki / 胡麻豆腐焼き)
Ground sesame tofu, grilled until crispy on the outside while the inside stays creamy and nutty. A special side dish.

7. Salmon Roe Gunkan (Ikura / いくら軍艦)
Fresh salmon roe that pops in your mouth, with the briny saltiness and bursting texture making this a memorable piece.

8. Golden Eye Snapper Nigiri (Kinmedai / 金目鯛)
As striking as its bright red color, the fat brings a gentle sweetness that spreads softly, a high-end fish.

9. Medium Fatty Tuna Nigiri (Chutoro / 中トロ)
Moderately fatty with a soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture.

10. Minced Tuna Roll (Torotaku / とろたく)
Chopped fatty tuna (toro) mixed with crunchy pickled daikon (takuan). The contrast between textures and flavors made this a fun combination.

11. Mini Seafood Rice Bowl & Miso Soup (Mini Kaisendon / ミニ海鮮丼)
Select seafood packed into one small bowl, a colorful dish that satisfies both the eyes and the palate.

12. Egg Custard (Gyoku / 玉子焼き)
Fluffy and sweet like castella cake or pudding, wrapping up the course on a pleasant note.

Verdict
At ¥4,800, the quality is convincing. The shari temperature control and soy sauce blending are careful, and there's a sense of flow to the course that you won't get at an à la carte sushi spot. That said, 12 items is on the lighter side, so if you want a more substantial course, consider the dinner omakase (¥9,800) as well.
🌟 The Tokyo Flagship of Michelin 1-Star AZABU (New York · Miami)
The biggest differentiator between Sushi Azabu and other Azabudai Hills restaurants is the brand history.
AZABU first opened in Manhattan, New York, earning Michelin 1 star. The Florida Miami Beach location also earned 1 star. A Japanese sushi brand that was first recognized overseas, then opened its flagship back in Tokyo — that reverse story gives this restaurant a special context.
True to their philosophy of "fusing diverse values without being bound by tradition," Sushi Azabu maintains the backbone of Edomae sushi while offering a modern space and accessible prices, aiming to bring the omakase experience to a wider audience.
English menus are available, making it easy for international visitors. It's also popular among Korean travelers.

If you want to try a sushi omakase during your Tokyo trip, the weekday lunch at Sushi Azabu is a good choice to try without pressure. The satisfaction relative to the price is high, so I'd recommend it even for those trying omakase for the first time.
Reservations do fill up quickly, so book through TableCheck as soon as your schedule is set.
