On April 25, 2025, Oishies Co., Ltd. — the company behind tsukemen specialist Tsujita and Chinese noodle shop Tanaka Soba — opened its 4th Tempura Meshi location at Roppongi Hills North Tower.

Nihonbashi Tempura Meshi Kaneko Hannosuke is a brand where you sit at the counter and enjoy freshly fried tempura served with rice, tentsuyu dipping sauce, tsukemono pickled side dishes, and miso soup.

The Roppongi Hills branch is especially popular with travelers thanks to its affordable weekday lunch menu.

Kaneko Hannosuke (金子半之助) is named after a legendary culinary master from Asakusa, Tokyo. His cooking notes contained the secret recipe for Edomae donburi sauce, and his descendants carried on his legacy — perfecting the authentic Edo-style tendon through countless trials.

🍤 Kaneko Hannosuke Food Experience

I arrived right at opening time on a weekday and got in without any wait.

While waiting for the tempura to be fried, I loaded up on the pickled side dishes that come with the meal.

The three types of pickles are tsubozuke (pickled daikon), ika yuzu (squid marinated in yuzu), and takana mentai (mustard greens with mentaiko). They were so good I went back for refills multiple times.

The chef fries each piece of tempura and places them on your plate one by one, in order.
