Which IC Card Should You Buy at Narita Airport?
At Narita Airport you can buy JR East’s regular Suica and Welcome Suica, and Keisei Electric Railway’s regular Pasmo and the Tourist Pasmo for travelers.
📌 Check this before buying a new one
iPhone users can issue a Suica or Pasmo in the Wallet app without a physical card. You don’t need to buy a physical card at an airport ticket machine or counter.
If you have an ICOCA bought in Osaka, or a SUGOCA, nimoca, or Hayakaken bought in Fukuoka, you can use it in Tokyo too. If your Japanese IC card carries the nationwide transit IC card interoperability mark, you don’t need to buy a new Suica or Pasmo.

With a regular Suica or Pasmo, when you return the card you get the balance back minus a 220 yen refund fee, along with the 500 yen deposit. Even if your balance is under 220 yen or zero, the 500 yen deposit is still returned.

📌 If you arrive without cash
The biggest advantage of the Welcome Suica is that you can pay by credit card when you first buy it at the JR EAST Travel Service Center at Narita Airport.
The Welcome Suica and Tourist Pasmo are sold at limited locations, so if you’re planning to use a physical traveler’s card, it’s convenient to get it at Narita Airport.
Where to Buy Suica and Pasmo at Narita Airport Terminal 1
In Terminal 1, you can buy Suica and Pasmo at Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station on basement floor 1.
After you come out into the 1st floor arrivals lobby, follow the railway signs down to basement floor 1 and you’ll reach Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station, where the JR Line and Keisei Line ticket gates are.
In the Keisei Line area you can buy the regular Pasmo and Tourist Pasmo, and in the JR Line area you can buy the regular Suica and Welcome Suica.

Where to Buy Suica and Pasmo at Narita Airport Terminal 2
In Terminal 2, you can buy Suica and Pasmo at Airport Terminal 2 Station on basement floor 1 of the Main Building.

Where to Buy Suica and Pasmo at Narita Airport Terminal 3
Terminal 3 has no railway station. To buy a Suica or Pasmo, you need to take the connecting path or the free inter-terminal shuttle bus to Terminal 2, then go to Airport Terminal 2 Station on basement floor 1. Along the Terminal 2 and 3 connecting path, it’s about a 13-minute walk from the Airport Terminal 2 Station ticket gates to Terminal 3.
The Welcome Suica is sold at the Welcome Suica dedicated ticket machine and the JR EAST Travel Service Center at Airport Terminal 2 Station. The Tourist Pasmo is sold at the SKYLINER & KEISEI INFORMATION CENTER in the same station.

Suica and Pasmo FAQ
Q. How long can I use the Welcome Suica and Tourist Pasmo? A. Both cards can be used for 28 days from the date of purchase. Once the validity period passes, you can’t use the remaining balance and you can’t get a refund either.
Q. Can I top up a physical Suica or Pasmo with a credit card? A. Topping up a physical Suica, Pasmo, Welcome Suica, or Tourist Pasmo requires yen in cash. You can pay by credit card when you first buy the Welcome Suica at the JR EAST Travel Service Center at Narita Airport, but topping up after that has to be in cash.
Q. Can I buy a children’s IC card too? A. Children aged 6 to 11 can buy a children’s Welcome Suica or Tourist Pasmo, and a children’s registered Suica or Pasmo. Bring ID such as a passport that shows the child’s name and date of birth.
