How to withdraw at Aeon Bank and Seven Bank ATMs
Aeon Bank and Seven Bank differ a little in the order of the steps for withdrawing yen with a card issued outside Japan.
✅ Aeon Bank
- ① Select START on the opening screen
- ② Select International Cards
- ③ Select your language
- ④ Press Confirm, then choose the amount to withdraw and continue

✅ Seven Bank
- ① Insert your card
- ② Select your language
- ③ Select Withdrawal
- ④ Select the account to withdraw from
- ⑤ Enter your card PIN
- ⑥ Choose the yen amount to withdraw
- ⑦ Select the settlement currency
- ⑧ Take your cash, card and receipt
⚠️ Watch out for DCC
When the settlement currency screen appears at a Seven Bank ATM, choose to proceed without converting now, which processes the transaction in Japanese yen (JPY). If you pick the option that converts into your own home currency, DCC (dynamic currency conversion) applies and the amount in that currency is fixed at the moment you use the ATM. If you choose Japanese yen, the transaction is made in yen and converted when your card is billed.

⚠️ Single withdrawal limits
- Seven Bank: up to 100,000 yen
- Aeon Bank: up to 50,000 yen
- Seven Bank magnetic stripe transactions: up to 30,000 yen
※ If your card issuer's own withdrawal limit is lower, the issuer's limit applies.
📌 An ATM withdrawal and airport currency exchange are not the same thing.
An ATM withdrawal takes yen cash out using a travel card or a linked account, while airport currency exchange swaps foreign currency you already hold for yen. New Chitose Airport has foreign currency exchange counters separately from the ATMs.
Knowing where the ATMs are at New Chitose Airport and which card you will use makes an unfamiliar airport a lot easier. One small piece of preparation cuts down the time you spend wandering the terminal, and the start of your Sapporo trip is that much more relaxed.
