Rikuro Ojisan Namba main store basics
Rikuro Ojisan no Mise (りくろーおじさんの店) is the souffle cheesecake brand most associated with Osaka. "Ojisan" means uncle and "mise" means shop, so the name itself reads as Uncle Rikuro's shop.
The Namba main store is inside the Ebisubashi-suji shopping arcade. The first floor sells the cheesecakes and other baked goods, and the second and third floors hold Riku Cafe ROOM, where you can sit down with a cheesecake and a drink.
They bake all day in the shop, so the long queue and the bell make it easy to find.

Cheesecake price and menu
The signature item is the freshly baked cheesecake (焼きたてチーズケーキ). One 6-go cake, about 18cm across, is 1,095 yen.

Rather than the dense, heavy kind of cheesecake, this one is souffle-like: airy and light. The cheese aroma is mild and it is not especially sweet, and there are syrup-soaked raisins in the base.
What goes into it:
- Cream cheese imported directly from Denmark
- Milk from Hokkaido
- Raisins steeped in their own syrup

Alongside the cheesecake they sell apple pie, the Niko Niko Rikuroll roll cake, Torori pudding and cookies.
Queues at the Namba main store
The Namba main store splits buyers into two queues. You pick either the freshly baked cheesecake or one baked about two hours earlier.

Queue 1: freshly baked
Straight out of the oven and still warm. Eaten right away, you get the airy, warm texture that only a just-baked cheesecake has.
They come out twelve at a time. When a batch is done a bell rings, and you can watch them stamp the Rikuro Ojisan face onto each one from the front of the shop.

Queue 2: baked about two hours earlier
Baked around two hours before and left to cool a little. Visiting at 9:00 on 8 August 2026 I bought from queue 2 with no wait at all, and even two hours on it was still warm to the touch.

How long you can carry it around depends on which one you buy.
The freshly baked one keeps longer out of the fridge, so factor in how long you will be travelling with it. If it is going home as a gift, buying it early and carrying it all day is worse than buying it closer to your flight, or refrigerating it until you leave.
| Type | Safe carrying time |
|---|---|
| Freshly baked | 10 hours |
| Baked about 2 hours earlier (May to October) | 5 hours |
| Baked about 2 hours earlier (November to April) | 7 hours |
Taking it on the plane and storing it
It is an ordinary cake, so it is not caught by the 100ml liquids rule when you fly out of Japan.
The cake is very soft and I thought checked baggage would crush it under everything else, so I took it into the cabin. If you carry it on, what matters is not letting the box tip onto its side, and keeping other bags off it.
- If it fits in the space under the seat in front, put it where the box will not get squashed.
- In the overhead bin, watch that no one puts a suitcase or bag on top of it.
- In summer, keep the gap between buying it and flying out as short as you can.
It comes in a paper box wrapped in plastic. The official shelf life is the day of purchase when kept somewhere cool and dark, or three days refrigerated. If you are not eating it straight away, refrigerate it.
When you refrigerate it, putting the wrapped cheesecake inside another plastic bag keeps it from drying out or picking up smells.

How to eat it
The texture is different warm and cooled.
1. Freshly baked
Straight from the oven is the airiest and lightest it gets.
2. Cooled a little
At room temperature the risen shape settles a bit compared with just-baked, and the ingredients come through more evenly.
3. Chilled in the fridge
Cold, it is moister and the flavour feels a little denser. In hot weather this is the one to go for.
4. Reheated in the microwave
A refrigerated cheesecake goes back to being airy. Cut a sixth, leave it unwrapped, and heat it at 500W for about 20 to 30 seconds. Heat it too long and the cake collapses.

Rikuro Ojisan FAQ
Q. Are there raisins in the cheesecake?
Yes. Raisins cooked in the shop's own syrup sit around the base of the cake. Rikuro Ojisan uses them as the flavour accent.
Q. Do they include a knife for cutting it?
Not by default. If you want one, the shop sells plastic knives at 10 yen each.
Q. Is there alcohol or honey in it?
Per the official ingredient list, no alcohol and no honey. The allergens listed are egg, dairy and wheat.
The bell ringing, and the faces going onto each cake one at a time, is what stayed with me. Warm it is light and airy, and brought back to the hotel and chilled it becomes something else. If you are walking around Namba and want something sweet, pick the queue that fits your schedule.
