✅ Can you go straight to Kobe from JR Namba Station?
No. There are no direct trains from JR Namba Station to Sannomiya or Kobe. JR Namba is where Yamatoji Line trains for Tennoji and Nara start, so going to Kobe by JR means changing trains on the way.
✅ Riding with an IC card
With an IC card such as ICOCA or Suica, you just tap it at the JR ticket gate and don't need to buy a ticket.
✅ Do you need the JR Kansai Area Pass?
If you're only going from Osaka to Kobe and back, you don't need to buy a pass.
| JR Kansai Area Pass, 1 day | JR Osaka → JR Kobe regular fare |
|---|---|
| 2,800 yen | 920 yen round trip |
The JR Kansai Area Pass covers Special Rapid, Rapid and Local trains plus the HARUKA limited express to Kansai Airport, but not the shinkansen. If you'll also use HARUKA or other JR routes such as Kyoto or Himeji on the same day, compare it with the total of the regular fares.

You can use nationally compatible IC cards such as ICOCA and Suica.
✅ Do you need the Hankyu 1day Pass?
If you're only going to Kobe-Sannomiya and back, you don't need the 1day Pass.
The 2026 Hankyu 1day Pass costs 1,300 yen for adults and covers all Hankyu lines for one day. The Kobe Kosoku Line isn't included. The 2026 pass is a digital ticket you use on your smartphone.

If you're spending half a day in Umeda before heading to Kobe, this route may help too.
