Umeda Half-Day Itinerary: Kuchu Teien, Parks & Shopping
Tokyo Mate
This is the half-day course I actually walked around Umeda in Osaka. Kuchu Teien, Umekita Park, Grand Green Osaka and the other places worth seeing in Umeda, through to the shopping at Osaka Station and Hanadako, in the order I moved between them.

The half-day route through Umeda
This is the half-day route I actually took in Umeda, Osaka on Thursday 6 August 2026. Free entry with the Osaka Amazing Pass runs until 3pm, so I did Kuchu Teien first, then went via Umekita Park and Grand Green Osaka toward Osaka Station.

| Time | Stop |
|---|---|
| 9:30 | ① Umeda Kuchu Teien observatory |
| 11:00 | ② Umekita Park |
| 11:30 | ③ Grand Green Osaka and Time Out Market |
| 12:30 | ④ Grand Front Osaka |
| 13:00 | ⑤ Osaka Station City (LUCUA, Daimaru) and Pokemon Center Osaka |
| 13:30 | ⑥ Hanadako |
| 13:50 | ⑦ Ganso Mix Juice |
| 14:00 | ⑧ Rooftop plaza on the 12th floor of Osaka Umeda Twin Towers South |
I left HEP FIVE out of this half-day course and came back to Umeda on the evening of the second day to see the night view from the ferris wheel. If you're staying in Umeda into the evening of the same day, you can add it as your last stop.
From Kuchu Teien to Umekita Park
✅ 9:30 ① Umeda Kuchu Teien observatory
The half day in Umeda started at the Kuchu Teien observatory in the Umeda Sky Building.
Free entry with the Osaka Amazing Pass means going in by 3pm, so I put it first. If you use it after 3pm, showing the pass gets you 10% off admission. I've covered Kuchu Teien's admission, opening hours and the pass conditions in detail in a separate post.

✅ 11:00 ② Umekita Park
Umekita Park is a roughly 4.5ha city park at the centre of GRAND GREEN OSAKA, connected directly to JR Osaka Station. As an urban park linked straight to a major terminal station it is among the largest in the world, and the South Park has a lawn plaza, water features, a large roof and a colour garden.
From Kuchu Teien it took about 10 minutes on foot. After coming down from the observatory, it was a good place to rest for a while and look at the wide lawn plaza with the high-rises behind it.

📌 Umekita Park is opening in stages.
When I visited in August 2026, all of the South Park and part of the North Park were open. On 20 November 2026 about 0.9ha of the North Park's Umekita Forest opens as well, and the whole park is due to open in spring 2027.
Grand Green Osaka and Grand Front Osaka
✅ 11:30 ③ Grand Green Osaka
GRAND GREEN OSAKA, which runs straight on from Umekita Park, has shops and restaurants, hotels and facilities such as JAM BASE.
Grand Green Osaka is a mixed-use development built around Umekita Park, with commercial facilities, hotels and the innovation facility JAM BASE. Its concept is a fusion of greenery and innovation, and it's laid out so you can shop and eat while walking through the park.

✅ 11:30 ③ Time Out Market Osaka
Time Out Market Osaka is on the first basement floor of Grand Green Osaka's south building.
It opened on 21 March 2025 as the first Time Out Market in Asia, with 17 kitchens and 2 bars in about 3,000㎡. It's a food and culture market where you can find popular chefs and local restaurants from Osaka and the Kansai region in one space. It's open 11:00-23:00 daily, with food orders closing at 22:00 and bar orders at 22:30.

Time Out Market has restaurants and chef brands that made their name in Osaka and Kansai. Among them are the Osaka handmade burger shop CRITTERS BURGER, the popular Dotonbori takoyaki shop CREO-RU, the Nara Yamato beef specialist NIKUTOIEBA MATSUDA, SABOTEN TAQUERIA run by the chef of the one-Michelin-star restaurant milpa, and the Osaka specialty coffee roaster MEL COFFEE ROASTERS.
LE CHEF DU MOIS, where a different guest chef presents a menu each month, also stands out.

✅ 12:30 ④ Grand Front Osaka
Grand Front Osaka is a large mixed-use complex in Umeda, built around its south building, north building and Umekita Plaza, with shopping, cafes and restaurants, and cultural and hands-on spaces.
Besides fashion, accessories and lifestyle stores, the north building has Knowledge Capital, a space for hands-on experiences and exchange, and on its 6th floor there's UMEKITA FLOOR, a food floor where restaurants are gathered.

📌 If you're visiting in winter
Grand Front Osaka and the Grand Green Osaka area are where the Umekita Illumination is held in winter. In the 2025-2026 season, about 480,000 LEDs lit Grand Front Osaka, Grand Green Osaka and the area around Umekita Green Place in champagne gold, with a large tree and seasonal events as well.
Umeda shopping: Osaka Station, Hankyu and Hanshin
Umeda has LUCUA, Daimaru and KITTE Osaka gathered around JR Osaka Station, with the Hankyu and Hanshin department stores running east from there. From character goods to fashion and cosmetics, food halls and Osaka food, it's easier to split your shopping by what you're after.
✅ Osaka Station City
Osaka Station City is a complex centred on JR Osaka Station, linking the North Gate Building and the South Gate Building. KITTE Osaka in JP Tower Osaka is nearby too, so it works well as a shopping route together with LUCUA and Daimaru.
Splitting the shopping by what you're looking for makes it easier.
| Mall | What it's for |
|---|---|
| LUCUA and LUCUA 1100 | Fashion, accessories and lifestyle shopping |
| LUCUA SOUTH | Character shopping such as Pokemon and Nintendo, and restaurants |
| Daimaru Umeda | Department store brands, cosmetics, food and gifts |
| KITTE Osaka | Products, food and restaurants from regions across Japan |
LUCUA SOUTH opened on 5 April 2026 on floors 10 to 16 of the South Gate Building. On the 13th floor, existing character shops including Pokemon Center Osaka and Nintendo Osaka are open, and floors 10 to 13 are expanding in stages as LUCUA Characters World. In autumn 2026, 29 new character shops are due to be added.

✅ Hankyu Department Store
The Hankyu Department Store Umeda main store opened in 1929 and is Umeda's flagship department store. Today it sells everything from fashion and cosmetics to luxury goods, accessories, food and homeware.
On the 9th floor there's the SHUKUSAI Plaza (祝祭広場), a wide atrium, and an event space, where events and pop-ups on overseas culture, food and fashion are held, along with seasonal events such as the Christmas market.
Floors 12 and 13 have a restaurant floor, and the 13th floor also has a rooftop plaza.

✅ Hanshin Department Store
Split by what a traveller wants, Hankyu is the easy one for fashion, cosmetics and seasonal events, and Hanshin for the food hall and Osaka food.
The Hanshin food hall on the first basement floor has fresh food, prepared dishes, sweets, bread and drinks, and the Snack Park on the same floor serves ramen, udon, okonomiyaki, akashiyaki, seafood rice bowls and more as quick meals. The Hanshin speciality ikayaki is here too.
On the second basement floor there's Hanshin Baru Yokocho (阪神バル横丁), where restaurants and bars including 551 Horai and Indian Curry are gathered, and the 9th floor has restaurants and a food hall.
The South Terrace on the first floor also has the official Hanshin Tigers shop, worth a look if you're after baseball goods.

✅ 13:00 ⑤ Pokemon Center Osaka
Pokemon Center Osaka is on the 13th floor of LUCUA SOUTH and opens 10:00-20:00. Character shops including Nintendo Osaka are on the same floor, so you can cover character shopping in one go.
Pokemon Center Osaka DX in Shinsaibashi is a separate shop, and the two differ in location and layout. I've covered the differences between them and buying Pokemon cards in detail in an earlier post.

Hanadako and Ganso Mix Juice
✅ 13:30 ⑥ Hanadako
After the shopping I took away takoyaki from Hanadako in Shin-Umeda Shokudogai. I've covered Hanadako's menu and prices, the queue and how takeaway works in detail in a separate post.
👉 Hanadako Umeda: Takoyaki Menu, Prices & Wait Time

✅ 13:50 ⑦ Ganso Mix Juice Osaka-Umeda main store
After picking up the takoyaki at Hanadako, I stopped at the Ganso Mix Juice Osaka Umeda main store. It was selected for Tabelog's Sweets WEST 100 in 2022, 2023 and 2026.
It started in 1969 at Hanshin Umeda Station as an old juice stand, and it still operates right in front of Hanshin Railway's Osaka-Umeda Station. It's open 7:00-22:00 with no regular closing day.

The signature mix juice is made by blending unshu mandarin, yellow peach and banana with ice, and it's fresh and sweet at the same time.

✅ 14:00 ⑧ Osaka Umeda Twin Towers South, 12th floor
The 12th floor of Osaka Umeda Twin Towers South has a rooftop plaza of about 1,000㎡ that visitors can use as well. It's planted with greenery, which makes it a good place to rest for a while in Umeda.
I ate the takoyaki I'd taken away from Hanadako and the mix juice here and rested a while. This is where the half day in Umeda ended, and I moved on to Tempozan.

The HEP FIVE ferris wheel in Umeda
I didn't include the HEP FIVE ferris wheel in this half-day plan.
I saw Kuchu Teien during the day and then moved on to Tempozan, and went to the HEP FIVE ferris wheel on the evening of the second day, when I came back to Umeda for the night view.
The HEP FIVE ferris wheel is a night-view spot looking down over central Umeda. As of 2026 it runs 11:00-23:00 with last boarding at 22:45, and regular admission is 1,000 yen. It can also be used with the Osaka Amazing Pass.
You don't have to fit both Kuchu Teien and the HEP FIVE ferris wheel into the same day. You can split them as I did, with Kuchu Teien in the daytime and the ferris wheel as a night-view course on another evening. If you're staying in Umeda after the half-day plan, you can add the ferris wheel as your last stop.

Umeda half-day course FAQ
Q. Is half a day enough for Umeda?
A. If your plan is Kuchu Teien, Umekita Park and Grand Green Osaka plus shopping and food at Osaka Station, half a day works. If you're shopping at the department stores for a long time, or seeing the night view from the HEP FIVE ferris wheel, allow until the evening.
Q. Does it work on a rainy day?
A. Yes. On my route, from Time Out Market onward I used Osaka Station's underground and indoor passages through to Pokemon Center and Hanadako. The stretch from Kuchu Teien to Umekita Park and looking around the park are outdoors, though, so you'll need an umbrella.
Q. If I have time left, where else should I go in Umeda?
A. You can add Tsuyunoten Shrine (Ohatsu Tenjin), east of Umeda. It's an old shrine known as the setting of the Edo-period work "The Love Suicides at Sonezaki", and these days many people also visit to pray for finding a partner. You can walk to it from central Umeda, so it's easy to add when your schedule allows.
Umeda is a place where the mood keeps changing within one neighbourhood: a high observatory, a wide park, shopping, and food that's been there a long time. Walking it slowly over half a day, you can find a moment to catch your breath in the middle of a busy trip around Osaka.
