Tokyo Mate
Admission to the Kuchu Teien observatory is 2,000 yen for adults. To get in free with the Osaka Amazing Pass you have to enter before 3pm, and one way to use the pass efficiently is to split your day: the observatory during the daytime, and the night view from another Umeda viewpoint.

📌 The Osaka Amazing Pass and the regular e-Pass let you in until 3pm, and the Have Fun in Kansai Pass until 5pm. The e-Pass PREMIUM has no time limit up to the 10pm last entry, so it works for the night-view hours too.
① Osaka Amazing Pass
The Osaka Amazing Pass gives free entry from 9:30 to 15:00, and after 15:00 you get 10% off the regular admission by showing the pass.
You show the QR code at the 39th-floor ticket counter to go through entry. When I went, they checked the Amazing Pass and handed me a paper ticket to enter with.

② Osaka e-Pass
The regular Osaka e-Pass works the same as the Amazing Pass: free entry until 3pm, 10% off after that. You show the e-Pass QR code, and the observatory can be used once during the pass period.
③ Osaka e-Pass PREMIUM
Unlike the regular e-Pass, the Osaka e-Pass PREMIUM has no entry time limit. You can enter with it any time within the 9:30-22:30 opening hours, up to the 22:00 last entry, which helps if you want the night-view hours.
④ Have Fun in Kansai Pass
The Have Fun in Kansai Pass gets you into the observatory until 17:00. After 17:00, showing the pass gets you 10% off regular admission, and you use it at the 39th-floor ticket counter.
Umeda Kuchu Teien: floors 39, 40 and the rooftop
The Kuchu Teien observatory runs from the indoor spaces on the 39th and 40th floors up to the open-air rooftop deck 173m above ground. After you finish entry on the 39th floor, you look around the indoor observatory on the 40th, and finally go up to the rooftop skywalk.
| Floor | What's there |
|---|---|
| 39F | Ticket counter, gallery shop, restaurant and lounge |
| 40F | Indoor observatory, cafe SKY 40, Heart Lock counter |
| Rooftop | Skywalk, Lumi Sky Walk, Lumi Deck |
① The indoor observatory on the 40th floor
The 40th floor is an indoor viewing space where you look out over central Osaka through full-height glass.
You get the city view toward downtown and the river view toward the Yodogawa. Even on a rainy day you can see Osaka from indoors. On the same floor, cafe SKY 40 has counter seats by the window where you can rest a while and look at the view.

② The rooftop skywalk
What stands out most at Kuchu Teien is the 360-degree open-air skywalk that goes all the way around the roof.
Unlike the indoor observatory, where you look through glass, this is a roofless outdoor walkway, so you feel the wind at 173m while you take in the whole of Osaka.
At night the floor of the skywalk, the "Lumi Sky Walk", lights up. Photoluminescent stones under 5mm across form stars, nebulae, meteors and planets. After dark, a path of starlight appears under your feet.

③ Heart Lock
On the rooftop's Lumi Deck there is a spot where you can attach a heart-shaped lock. To do that, buy a WEB ticket that includes the Heart Lock in advance, and you can have your names and the date engraved at the Heart Lock counter on the 40th floor.

⚠️ Things to know about the rooftop
You can enter the Kuchu Teien observatory in the rain, but umbrellas can't be used on the roof, for safety. In bad weather or strong wind the rooftop deck alone may be closed.
Tripods are allowed as long as they don't get in other visitors' way, but staff may restrict them when it's crowded.
In winter or on windy days especially it feels colder up there than indoors, so dress warmly.
Umeda Kuchu Teien sunset and night-view tips
Kuchu Teien is an observatory whose mood changes a lot between daytime, sunset and night. After the sun goes down you get the night view over central Osaka along with the glowing floor of the Lumi Sky Walk.
Sunset times in Osaka vary a lot by season and by date.
| Date | Sunset in Osaka |
|---|---|
| 20 March | around 18:09 |
| 20 June | around 19:14 |
| 20 September | around 17:59 |
| 20 December | around 16:50 |
※ Based on 2026 National Astronomical Observatory figures for Osaka. They shift with the date, so check the sunset time for the day you go.
If you want both the sunset and the night view, check the sunset time for your date and plan to be on the rooftop skywalk 30 to 40 minutes before it.

📌 Kuchu Teien by day, HEP FIVE at night
The Osaka Amazing Pass gets you in free until 3pm. You can go in before 3pm and stay through sunset into the night view. You can't re-enter, though.
Depending on the season, the wait until sunset can be long. In summer especially there are days when 4 hours or more separate a 3pm entry from sunset. I split it up: Kuchu Teien during the day and the night view from HEP FIVE.

📌 Kuchu Teien events
① The special sunsets in February and October
For a few days each February and October, Kuchu Teien gets a particular sight: the sun setting into the middle of the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. The dates change every year. Check the sunset notice on the official website before you go.
② Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival
On 17 October 2026 the observatory runs a special opening for watching the Naniwa Yodogawa Fireworks Festival. During the fireworks you need a dedicated ticket rather than regular admission, and you get the Osaka night view and the fireworks together from 173m up.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Q. Can I see the night view at Umeda Kuchu Teien with the Amazing Pass?
A. Yes. Free entry with the Osaka Amazing Pass applies if you enter by 3pm. Go in before 3pm and you can stay at the observatory through sunset and the night view. If you enter after 3pm it isn't free, and you get 10% off admission instead. You can't re-enter, though.
Q. Can I re-enter Umeda Kuchu Teien?
A. No. The official information says you can enter once per day, so look around both the 40th floor and the rooftop skywalk before you come back down.
Umeda Kuchu Teien stayed with me for the sky escalator and the wide-open rooftop as much as for the views of Osaka.
Since day and night feel so different up there, go at whichever time fits your plans and take the Umeda views in slowly.
