What is Takanawa Gateway?
Takanawa Gateway Station
Opened in March 2020, Takanawa Gateway is the newest station on the Yamanote Line, located between Shinagawa and Tamachi. It was the first new Yamanote Line station in about 49 years.
The station was designed by famous architect Kengo Kuma. It features a large wooden canopy that reinterprets traditional Japanese eave structures, combined with an open glass design.


Tokyo’s New Landmark: Takanawa Gateway City
Directly connected to Takanawa Gateway Station, this is a massive development by JR East with an investment of approximately 600 billion yen. The complex spans about 1.3 km north to south with a total floor area of roughly 840,000 square meters, combining shopping, hotels, and cultural facilities.

Q. How do I get to MoN Takanawa from the station, and how long does it take?
About 5-7 minutes on foot from Takanawa Gateway Station. Most of the route is covered, so it's convenient even on rainy days.
📌 TIP. Getting off at Sengakuji Station puts you even closer to MoN.

Q. Can you see all of Takanawa Gateway City in one day?
Since the complex includes shopping, restaurants, and exhibitions, allow at least half a day to explore comfortably. LUFTBAUM rooftop restaurants and popular omakase spots require advance reservations.
Q. How do you get around inside the city?
Self-driving mobility vehicles circulate inside the complex and can carry up to 3 people. They're available at the "Area Information & Mobility" zone. (Children under 105 cm must be accompanied by an adult.)


Q. Where are the free observation decks?
Two main spots:
① THE LINKPILLAR 1 North rooftop "LUFTBAUM" (28-29F) ➡️ Public Garden
Sui-no-Niwa and Yamabuki-no-Niwa are free to enter. You can enjoy Tokyo views without dining. (Restaurants and bars require separate reservations.)
② MoN Takanawa rooftop ➡️ A quieter spot for relaxing with a view.
