October festival calendar
12 October 2026 is Sports Day, a public holiday in Japan, which makes 10-12 October a three-day weekend. Tokyo Yosakoi, the Meguro Ward Festival and the Ikegami Honmonji Oeshiki are all concentrated in that stretch.
October 2026 in Tokyo runs from fireworks through traditional matsuri, autumn flowers, night markets, Halloween, a film festival and food events. Here are the main Tokyo festivals of October 2026 in date order, so you can match them to your travel dates.

Tokyo fireworks in October
The Tokyo Bay Grand Fireworks Festival returns in 2026 for the first time since 2015, 11 years on. Marking the 80th anniversary of Chuo Ward and Minato Ward, about 12,000 shells go up over Tokyo Port off Harumi Pier.
The viewing area is entirely ticketed and no tickets are sold on the day. General seating is due to go on sale from 10am on 9 September, first come first served.
It runs from 5:30pm to 7pm on Saturday 24 October. Ticket prices, viewing spots and traffic restrictions will be covered in a separate post.
Halloween and city festivals
① Jiyugaoka Megami Festival
A local autumn festival centred on the area in front of Jiyugaoka Station, with live performances, shopping street events, food and markets. The 2026 dates have not been announced yet; last year it was held on 12-13 October over the Sports Day weekend.

② Tokyo Night Market
More than 50 food and market stalls line the keyaki avenue in Yoyogi Park, with live performances, DJs and shows. Around 200,000 people come to this night event, one of Shibuya's biggest.

③ Tokyo Ajiwai Festa 2026
A food festival with dishes made from Tokyo-grown produce and ingredients, plus a marche and hands-on programmes.

④ Hanakawado Sukeroku and YUME Festival
A local festival run by the shoe and leather shops of Hanakawado in Asakusa, with discounts on shoes, bags, clothing and general goods, and food events alongside.

⑤ Ikebukuro Halloween
A large Halloween event across Ikebukuro with a cosplay parade, stages and photo programmes. In 2026 it runs over three days including a Friday night programme, and the night event is for over-18s only.

⑥ Tokyo Ramen Festa 2026
An outdoor food festival where you can eat ramen from all over Japan, from Hokkaido to Kyushu, in one place. 12 ramen stalls take part in 2026, and this year is the last time it is held at Komazawa Olympic Park.

Autumn flower festivals
① Cosmos Festival 2026
About 4 million Lemon Bright cosmos spread across the Flower Hill at Showa Kinen Park, and in October you can also see the pink Sensation cosmos and the autumn bouquet garden. 24-25 October are free admission days.

② Mukojima Hyakkaen bush clover festival
Walk the roughly 30m bush clover tunnel that Mukojima Hyakkaen is known for in autumn, and see the seasonal flowers. Entry is free on 1 October, Tokyo Citizens' Day.

③ Former Furukawa Gardens Autumn Rose Festival
About 200 rose bushes across roughly 100 varieties bloom in the western-style garden. 2026 marks the garden's 70th anniversary, with concerts and a rose garden market as well.

④ Tokyo Metropolitan Chrysanthemum Show
A traditional chrysanthemum show running since 1915, where you can see a range of chrysanthemums, bonsai and dome-trained plants at Hibiya Park. The 2026 dates have not been announced yet.

⑤ Takahata Fudoson chrysanthemum festival
An autumn chrysanthemum festival with about 1,000 works displayed in the grounds of Takahata Fudoson Kongoji. You can see a range of chrysanthemums and bonsai, and there are plants for sale and growing advice. The 2026 dates have not been announced yet.

Traditional matsuri and local festivals
October brings a range of autumn matsuri across Tokyo, from traditional events like yosakoi and oeshiki through to local food festivals, tea ceremonies and a used book festival.
① 27th Tokyo Yosakoi
Tokyo's largest yosakoi festival, where teams from across the country dance yosakoi centred on Ikebukuro.

② 50th Meguro Ward Festival and Saury Festival
Tickets for the grilled saury are by advance application, and the 2026 application ran from 4 August to 25 August and has closed. Without a ticket you cannot get the grilled saury, but the regional produce fair, the festival plaza and the children's plaza are open to everyone.

③ Ikegami Honmonji Oeshiki
The main traditional event at Ikegami Honmonji. On the night of the 12th in particular, about 3,000 people march roughly 2km carrying mando lanterns, drums and flutes.

④ Musashi Mitake Shrine kagura and gagaku
Musashi Mitake Shrine on Mount Mitake opens its Daidai kagura and gagaku, a Tokyo intangible folk cultural property, to the public. In October you can see a daytime performance and a night kagura.

⑤ Koto Ward Festival and Kiba no Kakunori
One of Koto Ward's largest local festivals, held around Kiba Park, with local produce, stages and parades. You can also see Kiba no Kakunori, the traditional folk performance where people balance on round logs floating on the water.

⑥ Nihonbashi Bettara Market
A traditional market going back to the Edo period, with bettarazuke and food stalls lining the streets around Takarada Ebisu Shrine. In past years around 400 to 500 stalls have set up, and the Nihonbashi streets take on a festival mood into the evening.

⑦ Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony
Tokyo's main autumn tea event, where you can try tea ceremonies from various schools and outdoor tea without any pressure. From 2026 the participation tickets have changed to same-day sales.

⑧ Kanda Used Book Festival
Japan's best-known used book festival, with bookshelves running the length of Yasukuni-dori along the Jimbocho used bookshop street. Last year around 120 shops took part and more than a million books were on offer.

① ARTE TOKYO
An international culture and arts festival that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government starts for the first time in 2026, linking art, performance, music and illumination programmes across the city. The waterfront area, Hibiya and Marunouchi, and Yoyogi and Shibuya are the core areas.

② 37th Niijima International Glass Art Festival
An international art event where glass artists from Japan and abroad run workshops and give making demonstrations using Niijima's distinctive glass. Ordinary visitors can see the artists' demonstrations and a work auction on the open days.

④ Roppongi Art Night 2026
A large art event where you can take in installations and performances through the night across Roppongi, at Roppongi Hills, the museums and Tokyo Midtown. In 2026 the all-night format returns for the first time in three years, running from 5pm to 6am the next morning.
