TsuruTonTan is a hugely popular Sanuki udon chain that started in Osaka in 1989. Today, it has locations across Japan as well as in New York and Hawaii.
The Roppongi location moved to a new spot directly across from Tokyo Midtown as of September 1, 2024, making it much easier to get to. Even better, they have a queue number system that lets you go explore the area instead of standing in line.

TsuruTonTan Roppongi — How to Get There
The Roppongi location sits right across from Tokyo Midtown, so just head toward Tokyo Midtown.
Come up to street level and cross the crosswalk — that's where TsuruTonTan is.

TsuruTonTan Roppongi — Reservation System
1. Walk-in Queue
One of the best things about TsuruTonTan Roppongi is that you can take a queue number and check your wait status online. Head up to the 7th floor restaurant entrance where you'll find the number ticket machine. Scan the QR code on the ticket to check the real-time queue status on your phone.

On a weekday evening at 6:50 PM, there were 29 groups ahead of us. While waiting, we went to check out the Tokyo Midtown Christmas illumination. (See the related links below!)

At 8:40 PM, we got the call from TsuruTonTan. Without the queue system, we would have had to wait two hours sitting at the restaurant. Thanks to the system, we got to enjoy the Tokyo Midtown Christmas illumination and do some shopping instead.

On weekends the wait tends to be longer, so we recommend getting your number ticket earlier than your intended meal time.
2. Online Reservation (Course Meals Only)
- Note: Lunch and dinner reservations are only available when ordering a course meal.
- Important: You cannot reserve just a seat — if you want to order individual udon dishes, you'll need to take a number at the restaurant.
- No-show policy: Reservations are automatically canceled if you arrive more than 15 minutes late. Dining time may be limited to 2 hours to accommodate the next reservation.

TsuruTonTan Roppongi — Interior
As you'd expect from a recently opened location, the interior is spacious and cozy. The window seats offer a perfect view of the Tokyo Midtown illumination below.

TsuruTonTan Roppongi — Menu & How to Order
TsuruTonTan has such an extensive menu that deciding what to order is always the hardest part. We took photos of the signature dishes displayed on the 1st floor before heading up to the 7th floor.
The ordering tablet supports Korean, but the menu item names and descriptions are in Japanese. We've marked the names and prices on the photos of the signature dishes below for your reference.

The Roppongi-exclusive item is the biggest udon in TsuruTonTan's history — a massive 42 cm bowl! It packs 3.5 servings of noodles topped with jumbo shrimp tempura, beef, egg, and generous slices of fried tofu. An absolute showstopper at ¥3,980.

You order from a tablet at your seat. Korean language is available on the tablet.

At TsuruTonTan, you can choose your noodle portion size when ordering. You can add up to 3 portions at no extra charge, so you'll leave with a full stomach for sure.

TsuruTonTan Roppongi — Food
This visit was all about trying new dishes, so we ordered only items we'd never had before.
We started with a Sumidagawa beer and a lemon mousse vodka. Refreshingly sweet and delicious.

The warm mentaiko (cod roe) udon. The rich, deep flavor of the mentaiko blends beautifully with the noodles. You'll want to eat the noodles together with the cucumber for the best taste. If you're not a mentaiko fan, this one might be hit or miss.

The shrimp cream udon — we ordered this one out of pure curiosity after seeing everyone around us eating it. It's not a carbonara-style cream but more like a clear cream soup. You scoop up the cream and noodles together with a large spoon. A perfect match for a cold winter evening.

TsuruTonTan Udon Bowls
When you walk into the restaurant, you'll find a display of udon bowls from the very first bowl TsuruTonTan used when it first opened, all the way to the current design. The bowls evolved in order from right to left.

The 1st generation bowl from 1988 and the 5th generation bowl from 2009.
